Philippine Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Relief 2013

"In a matter of hours on Friday, Typhoon Haiyan completely devastated parts of the central Philippines. It was one of the strongest storms ever recorded. The death toll is estimated up to 10,000 with hundreds of thousands more displaced. The country has declared a “state of calamity.”

As of November 2013, there have been around a reported 50 storm systems in the Pacific/Philippines.








Some notable ones are: 
  1. Typhoon Utor (Labuyo)(120 mph)
  2. Typhoon Usagi (Odette)125 mph
  3. Typhoon Danas (Ramil)(115 mph)
  4. Typhoon Francisco (Urduja)(120 mph)
  5. Typhoon Lekima(130 mph)
  6. Typhoon Nari (Santi)(85 mph)
  7.  and Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) (145 mph) which caused over $1 billion (PHP) in damages. 

Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in particular is one of the most powerful storms ever recorded. It left the area completely bedlam and caused thousands of deaths from 3000 to over 10,000 people in the central Philippines. A number of countries such as China is helping as well as America, having reportedly donated over $20 million as of this post.

The American Red Cross has launched a family tracing service among other aid operations. If you are unable to reach a family member in the Philippines, you can contact your local chapter of the American Red Cross to initiate a tracing case. Representatives added that it has deployed two people to assist with assessments in the Philippines. It asks those who want to support relief efforts to mail a check to their local American Red Cross chapter, with "Philippines Typhoons and Flood" in the memo line. Some of the Other Organizations Providing Relief Services

Apple has conducted several similar campaigns (via The iTunes/Red Cross donation system) in the past, most recently in October 2012 following Superstorm Sandy, in March 2011 following the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and in January 2010 following the Haitian earthquakes. was recently used in 2012 to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.


Many other companies have pledged to help such as Coke, Ikea, Pepsi, Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruises, the Miami Heat, E. & J. Gallo Winery, Toyota, Texas Instruments, Macy's, Niko, Lifeway Foods, JP Morgan & Chase, Samsung, Disney, UPS World Vision and so on. AT&T and Verizon offered billing relief for calling and texting friends and families to and from the Philippines.

Google has launched a person finder. 
Habitat for Humanity plans to offer shelter repair kits for families who need to re-build their damaged houses.
